- Kids ConsortiumKIDS (Kids Involved in Doing Service-Learning) is a non-profit that supports schools and organizations in Maine and throughout New England as they pursue service-based projects for students. They also offer a wide variety of professional development for teachers related to service-learning.
- Thirteen.orgStudents and teachers alike can use this resource to prepare for their classroom activities. Students of all ages ranging from third grade, to those interested in adult education are provided with fun and clear activities making learning the subjects that they are interested in easier and more understandable. Under the teacher link, there are lesson plans for just about every age, in just about every subject.
- Development Education.ieWith a vast array of resources for both students and educators, Development Education provides pictures, and fact lists for students, while also offering teaching advice and tools for all levels of education. - The GlobalistThe Globalist publishes a daily online magazine about global economy, politics, and culture. There are several resources designed for use in the classroom. Every Sunday, The Globalist Quiz offers questions for consideration in thinking about our shrinking world.
- Kids Across the WorldPhotojournalist Joan Sara Klatchko runs this website, which uses photography to educate about the world. Klatchko does in-school programming and publishes print and digital materials. The website also includes lesson plans.
- Beyond the FireThis website is an interactive look at fifteen teenaged refugees from seven war zones. It features the refugees’ stories and background about the conflict in their home countries. There are also links to websites with additional information about conflict zones and agencies working in conflict zones, as well as lesson plans and print materials for teachers.
- Apple Learning Exchange--Global AwarenessThe Apple Learning Interchange is a network for educators where they can exchange ideas, resources, lesson plans, and curriculum units. Google Earth
- Google Earth Tours--AsiaMy Wonderful World gives a virtual tour of the culture and ecology of Asia through quizzes, videos, and images. The tour is split into seven days and uses Google Earth to guide students through the continent.
- Google Lit TripsThis website uses Google Earth as a teaching tool to pair with literature. Students can see images of and learn about the places visited in the literature they are reading.
Globalist
The Globalist's Global Connections is a new initiative to help teachers and students explore some of the world's most troubling problems. When teachers sign up to participate, the Globalist sends a briefing on current facts, countries, individuals, and issues that can be incorporated into the classroom.
