Peace Corps Kids

  • Peace Corps Kids
    Peace Corps engages kids in an interactive game where students are responsible for making real-life decisions about a community in Africa. Kids must face challenges such as water contamination, malaria, soil runoff, and others in an effort to help sustain a small village. Teacher lesson plans are provided to support each student challenge.

Youth Leadership Program


Global Citizen Corps sponsors a year-long leadership program for high school students. The program features extensive training, tools, and resources for students to implement "Global Action Days" in their schools. Student leaders also participate in national trainings and a Leadership Summit. Applications are accepted in the spring semester for participation in the following school year.

 

For Students

  • TeachUNICEF
    Fun Games, and a lot of clear concise information make TeachUNICEF.com a great resource for teachers, parents and students alike. While the games are a fun way to present children with information, there are a number of other ways to engage in the TeachUNICEF website.
  • Oxfam Cool Planet
    Geared towards kids, Oxfam Global Cool educates youth about countries, kids around the world, and ways to take action.
  • STAND  
      
    STAND is a student anti-genocide coalition that focuses mostly on Darfur, Sudan but encourages members to learn about other conflicts. STAND provides students with resources, educational material (Powerpoint presentations and a reading list are available on the website), and policy and advocacy training. The organization’s goal is to “establish a permanent anti-genocide constituency that holds elected officials accountable for doing all that they can to prevent and end genocide.”
  • Voices of Youth--UNICEF
    This website provides information about several global topics relating to education, health, global development, and the environment. It has games, stories, and other online teaching tools. There is also a discussion forum and a list of additional online resources.
  • Peace Corps (Teens)
    This website offers teens a way of getting involved through advocacy and volunteer work. There are resources to help teens find local organizations with which to volunteer or to help them start their own volunteer efforts. It also contains information about the Peace Corps, its work, and how to become a Peace Corps volunteer.
  • Roots and Shoots
    Roots and Shoots is the Jane Goodall Institute’s international environmental and humanitarian program for youth of all ages. The program connects youth from around the world in a shared mission for making the world a better place. The website helps students start service projects worldwide and encourages global collaboration.
  • Sesame Workshop Global Grooves
    Global Grooves is an interactive “juke box” of music from around the world. Kids can pick an instrument and hear selections of music from various countries. Especially suited for elementary school students.
